A Few of My Favorite Things

A physical photo with my favorite people, doing my favorite things, in my favorite places. Having some copies that I can hold in my hands reminds me of how real those moments were and just how much I have to be grateful for.

A sleep mask is one of the most important items I use. With all of the things that I juggle during the day, having time to relax and rest at night allows me to balance my responsibilities to other people with my own personal needs.

A planner is a new addition to my favorite things. I buy one every year under the impression that simply having one will somehow organize my life for me. While that never happens, this year I have been utilizing my planner more than ever. To me, it symbolizes the goals I have and the work I am willing to put into bettering myself.

A watch is something I cannot leave the house without. I only have one, and it is starting to look worn, but it has gotten me through everything from surf sessions to late nights in the studio.

A small silver ring is one of the only consistent pieces of jewelry I wear. It is a gift from my long-distance boyfriend and it never fails to remind me of him.

A vase is something I never go long without. This is my current favorite, but I have a habit of collecting all sorts of vessels to put fresh flowers in.

Vertical Line: This painting is composed of numerous vertical strokes placed next to one another. By doing so, Grosse has created an illusion of movement and combines the separate elements into a unified work.

Repetition: This piece utilizes the repetiton of color and vertical line in a way that allows the strokes themselves to be the focal point and subject of the work.

Color: In this piece, Grosse uses color to organize her abstract marks into a complex, yet unified, object. The high contrast between the different hues sparks visual interest in a cyclical manner, and the use of negative space allows viewers to recognize the color of the paper itself as it contributes to the work as a whole.
